Statutory periodic examinations
Periodic Medical Examination for Factory Workers
A periodic medical examination (PME) is the repeat check that workers in hazardous processes must undergo at intervals set by your state factory rules — commonly every six or twelve months — to catch early effects of dust, noise, chemicals or heat before they become disease. Plan My Health runs PMEs as onsite camps at your plant, shift by shift.
Each worker gets a doctor's fitness opinion and the plant gets a register and certificates in the format its state requires, with due dates tracked so nobody falls overdue.

Tests depend on the process, not a fixed package
- All workers: history, clinical examination, vitals, BMI, vision and basic blood tests as the doctor advises
- Noise exposure: audiometry
- Dust, fumes or silica: spirometry (lung function) and chest X-ray where indicated
- Lead, solvents or other chemicals: blood or urine tests for the specific agent, liver and kidney function
- Drivers and crane operators: vision including colour vision, and fitness for driving
- Food handlers: tests required under food safety rules
Legal basis
The Factories Act, 1948 (including Section 41C for hazardous processes) and state factory rules require pre-employment and periodic examinations for workers in notified processes, with results kept in health registers and fitness certificates — often in Form 33 or the state's equivalent form.
Legal references on this page are general guidance. Exact requirements depend on your state factory rules, the processes you run and your headcount, so we confirm the applicable rules for each site before we propose a scope.
Running PMEs without stopping production
We set up stations in the OHC, a training room or a mobile unit and call workers department by department. Slower tests such as audiometry run in a quiet room in parallel. Workers absent on the camp day are covered at a follow-up visit.
After the examination
Workers with abnormal findings are counselled and referred. Restricted-fitness opinions are shared with the supervisor without medical detail. EHS receives anonymised trends by department — for example, hearing changes in one area — to guide engineering controls.
How we scope periodic medical examinations
- Short call with HR or EHS to understand headcount, shifts, processes and existing arrangements
- Site walk-through (in person or on video) to see hazards, space and access
- Written proposal with scope, staffing, schedule and price — nothing bundled you did not ask for
- Mobilisation with a named coordinator for your account
- Digital records and due-date tracking in the Plan My Health platform
Medical governance
- Qualified MBBS doctors lead every clinical service; AFIH-qualified doctors are deployed where a process requires one.
- Trained nurses (GNM, BSc or ANM) and paramedics work under doctor oversight and written protocols.
- Clinical oversight: reports and fitness opinions are reviewed by a doctor, with escalation for abnormal results.
- Confidentiality: individual health records are shared only with the employee; HR receives aggregate data and the fitness opinions a role legally needs.
- Data privacy: records are stored digitally with access limited by role.
Frequently asked questions
How often is a periodic medical examination needed?
It depends on the process and your state rules — commonly every six or twelve months for hazardous processes. We confirm the interval for each department.
What is a Form 33 certificate?
In several states, Form 33 is the certificate of fitness issued after a statutory medical examination of a worker in a hazardous process. Other states use their own form numbers. We issue certificates in the format your state requires.
Can contract workers be included?
Yes. Contract workers in the same process face the same exposure. Each record is tagged with the contractor so both parties see their workers.
Who sees the individual medical results?
Employees see their own results. Management receives anonymised summaries and the fitness opinions the law requires for specific roles. Anything more is shared only with the employee's consent, in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
