Construction site medical room
Onsite Clinic and OHC for Construction Sites
An onsite clinic for a construction site is a staffed medical room — usually a nurse or paramedic full-time with an MBBS doctor visiting or on call — that treats injuries, screens workers and keeps the health records the project needs. On large projects it grows into a full occupational health centre (OHC) covering the labour camp as well.
We have merged our construction OHC and onsite clinic pages into this one page, because on a construction project they are the same service at different sizes.

Three sizes of site medical cover
- First aid post: trained first aiders and stocked first aid boxes at each work front, for small or short projects
- Site medical room: a nurse or paramedic on every working shift, an MBBS doctor visiting on fixed days and on call
- Full site OHC: doctor on site, nurses by shift, observation beds, a stationed ambulance and coverage of the labour camp — for large infrastructure or township projects
What the BOCW framework expects from a project
The BOCW Act, 1996 and the BOCW Central Rules, 1998, together with state BOCW rules, cover first aid boxes, the availability of trained first aid personnel, arrangements for ambulance or transport to hospital, medical examination of workers and occupational health services on larger sites. Principal employers usually add their own medical standards in the contractor safety plan.
Legal references on this page are general guidance. Exact requirements depend on your state rules, the work you carry out and your headcount, so we confirm the applicable rules for each site before we propose a scope.
Risks a construction site clinic has to handle
- Falls from height and scaffold injuries — stabilisation, spinal precautions and fast transfer
- Cuts, crush and eye injuries from tools, rebar and grinding
- Heat stress, dehydration and heat stroke during summer pours
- Electrical shock near temporary power
- Fevers, diarrhoea and vector-borne illness in labour camps during the monsoon
Labour camp health
On residential projects the clinic also runs labour camp OPD hours, monitors drinking water and sanitation complaints, organises vector-control drives with the project team and screens new arrivals. This is often where the clinic prevents the most lost days.
Registers and handover at project close
Staff record every treatment, injury and referral in a digital register with the contractor name, so monthly safety reports and incident investigations have real data. When the project closes, the records are handed over in an exportable format rather than lost with a paper file.
How we scope a construction site clinic
- Short call with HR, EHS or the project manager to understand headcount, shifts and existing arrangements
- Site or office walk-through (in person or on video) to see the actual layout, access routes and risks
- Written proposal with scope, staffing, schedule and price — nothing bundled that you did not ask for
- Mobilisation, induction into your site rules and a named coordinator for the account
- Monthly review with digital records in the Plan My Health platform
Frequently asked questions
Do we need a doctor on site full-time?
Not always. Many projects run with a nurse or paramedic per shift and a visiting MBBS doctor. Large projects, remote locations and big labour camps usually justify a full-time doctor.
Can the clinic move as the project phases change?
Yes. We can start with a container medical room near the main work front and shift or expand it as the project grows.
Who supplies the medicines and equipment?
We can supply and manage them with expiry tracking, or work with stock you provide.
Does the clinic cover subcontractor workers?
Yes. Everyone on site is treated, and records are tagged by contractor for reporting.
How do you handle serious injuries?
The site emergency plan names the nearest suitable hospitals and the transport arrangement in advance, and the clinic team runs drills with your safety officers.
Will management see individual medical details?
No. Employees see their own records. Management sees anonymised summaries plus the fitness opinions the law requires for specific roles. Anything more is shared only with the employee's consent, in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
