First aid training certificates in India: what employers should check
Last updated 7 October 2026
Not every first aid certificate is worth the paper it is printed on. What a credible workplace first aid course includes, how long certificates stay valid, and what auditors look for.

Search for first aid training in India and you will find everything from two-hour video courses with instant certificates to full-day hands-on programs. For an employer, the difference matters: a certificate only protects you in an audit — and your people in an emergency — if the training behind it was real.
What a credible course looks like
A workplace first aid course worth paying for is hands-on. Every participant performs CPR on a manikin, practises the recovery position, controls simulated bleeding and handles at least one scenario drawn from your actual workplace — electric shock in a plant, heat stroke on a site, a collapse in an office. If attendees only watched a demonstration, the certificate says they attended, not that they can act.
Check three things before booking: the trainer's qualifications, the student-to-manikin ratio (more than 8–10 people per manikin means most people never practise), and whether the certificate lists the modules covered and the date. Auditors and client vendor teams increasingly ask for exactly those details.
How many first aiders do you need?
The Factories Act and state rules require first aid boxes and trained first aiders in proportion to your workforce, and other sectors follow equivalent standards as good practice. A practical rule of thumb is at least one trained first aider per shift per floor or work area — so cover does not disappear when someone is on leave.
This article is general guidance, not legal advice. Requirements vary by state, process and headcount, so confirm the rules that apply to each site with your factory inspectorate or a qualified adviser.
Keeping certificates current
First aid skills fade within months if they are not used. Plan a refresher every 12 months, keep a register of who is trained and when their certificate lapses, and run at least one drill a year so first aiders practise with your layout, your alarm system and your ambulance arrangements.
