How Health Risk Assessment Helps Lower Group Health Insurance Costs
Last updated 30 September 2026
What aggregated HRA data can and cannot do at renewal, and how to use it with your broker without compromising employee privacy.

Group health premiums are driven largely by claims. A health risk assessment will not change last year's claims, but it can show where future claims are likely to come from — and give you a plan to act on them.
What HRA data shows
An anonymised HRA report shows the share of employees at risk of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and obesity, along with lifestyle and stress factors, by location or age band.
Turning risk into action
- Target checkups at the groups with the highest risk
- Offer teleconsultations and diet plans to employees who are flagged
- Plan wellness sessions around the top risks
- Repeat the HRA to see whether risk is moving
Using it at renewal
Evidence of risk and of interventions gives you and your broker more to discuss than the claims ratio alone. No provider can honestly guarantee a premium reduction, so be wary of anyone who does.
Privacy first
Under the DPDP Act, 2023, individual health data belongs to the employee. Share only aggregated, anonymised data with brokers and insurers unless an employee explicitly consents.
