First aid training saves lives in the first four minutes
Last updated 14 September 2026
Ambulances take time. Trained colleagues do not. Why first aid and CPR training is the highest-return safety spend in any workplace.
By the Plan My Health corporate health team

In a cardiac arrest, survival falls sharply with every minute that passes without chest compressions. In most Indian cities an ambulance cannot reliably reach a workplace inside that window. The only person who can act in the first four minutes is the colleague standing next to the patient.
The same logic applies to heavy bleeding, choking, burns, electric shock, chemical splash, heat stroke and falls. Each has a simple, teachable first response that changes the outcome — and each is commonly mishandled by well-meaning bystanders who were never trained.
Training changes behaviour only if it is practical. Hands-on CPR on a manikin, AED use, recovery position, bleeding control, splinting and correct emergency escalation should all be practised, not watched on a slide. Skills fade within months, so a refresher every year with certification every two years keeps the response usable.
Coverage matters as much as content. Plan first-aiders per shift, not per headcount, and make sure night and weekend shifts are covered. Keep kits stocked and checked, mark AED locations, and run unannounced drills scoring the time to first compression rather than attendance.
Plan My Health runs certified first aid, CPR/AED, fire safety and emergency response training for offices, warehouses and plants across India — onsite, in your language, with batch records, drill scoring and automatic renewal reminders so certifications never lapse quietly.
It is the rare safety investment where the return is unambiguous: a trained team keeps someone alive long enough for professional care to arrive.
